Evolution of unemployment in December 2022

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM amounts to 15,760 on 31 December 2022, a decrease of 643 persons (or -3.9%) compared to December 2021. The number of jobseekers is mainly decreasing for jobseekers with a registration period of more than 12 months. If we compare the number of jobseekers with the number of jobseekers in November, we can see an increase of 1,138 people (+7.8%). This increase mainly concerns people over 45 years of age.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC is 4.8%.

The number of new registrations of jobseekers is decreasing. In fact, 2,182 residents registered with ADEM during December 2022, a decrease of 78 people or 3.5% compared to December 2021. It should be noted that this month's new registrations include 87 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit decreased by 55 people or 0.7% year-on-year to 7,674. The number of people receiving an employement measure stands at 4,008 and is below the level observed in December 2021 (-217 people, or 5.1%).

During December 2022, employers reported 2,679 vacancies to ADEM, a decrease of 17.8% compared to December 2021. The number of available positions stands at 10,925 as of 31 December 2022. The year-on-year increase is 6.9%.
